Finding balance - Figure Drawing Explorations
a workshop by Oleksandra Fastovets aka Hanukafast
There are countless approaches to figure drawing. To find which one works best for oneself and improve on it is an everlasting journey for a lot of artists. In order to grow and evolve it is important to find a good balance between basic knowledge about light, anatomy, form and color, and the freedom of playfully exploring the subject matter at hand. In this workshop with Oleksandra Fastovets you will be exploring both - the theory behind the human form, as well as taking it further into expressing what you, as the artist, finds meaningful in pose and figure. You will explore how to capture movement, define the idea behind a pose and recognize which parts of the human body deserve soft rendering and which ones are hard and unyielding.
The process will focus on defining shapes and forms through understanding the basics of light and shadow, first simplifying and working in a minimalistic way, then, adding details and story later on. The workshop itself will be a good balance between theory and practice, with plenty of time for feedback, figure drawing with a life model and learning from Oleksandra.
This workshop is not tied down to a specific medium, so you are welcome to use whichever one you feel most comfortable with. Oleksandra will mostly be using paper and pencil, as well as other traditional and digital media, if the need arises.
This workshop is suitable for intermediate to advanced artists. You should have a basic understanding of figure drawing and be interested in expanding that knowledge. Oleksandra, aka Hanukafast is a Ukrainian traditional and digital artist, currently based in Paris.
Next to her love for drawing the human figure for her own projects she has worked for clients like Sun Creature and the french AAA studio Fortiche, where she was part of the development of Riot Games hit series “Arcane”. This year she published her first artbook with Edition Caurette.
