FUll Figure Oil Painting Workshop

Spend two days learning the academic approach to painting the figure, from first marks to finished oil painting.

Unlock the fundamentals of working from a live model in this intensive workshop designed to build confidence in your observational oil painting, based on the approach taught at the Florence Academy of Art. 

• Day 1 (Half-Day) | The Foundation & Block-In
  We begin by establishing an accurate foundation by drawing the figure in raw umber. You will learn to break down the complex human form through comparative measuring techniques, proportional accuracy, essential anatomy, and the art of the block-in.

• Day 2 (Full Day) | Color, Structure & Completion
  We start the morning by mastering palette organization. It is the single most crucial skill for any aspiring oil painter. From there, we dive into controlling values, managing soft and hard edges, and applying key principles of color theory. With guided instruction throughout the day, you will take your figure from initial structure to a completed painting. 

By the end of the workshop, you will leave with a finished life study and a repeatable, structured workflow to take back to your studio. Pablo will be guiding you through a theoretical part, will demonstrate his approach and is providing individual as well as group feedback throughout the workshop. You will be painting from a life model. The workshop is suitable for oil painting beginners as well as everyone who is interested in learning the academic approach to figure painting. Ideally you should have already have a basic understanding of drawing the human form.

Materials:

Drink and Draw will provide the following:

• one canvas per person (appr. 50cm × 70cm)

• Mineral spirits or turpentine

• Willow charcoal for sketching on the canvas before starting to paint. 

• Abundance of paper towels

You will need to bring:

• Paints: Ivory black, English red, vermillion red, yellow ochre, titanium white. Optional: cobalt blue, viridian. I recommend Michael Harding or old Holland - those are expensive though. For a mid price range you can go with Rembrandt paints. 

• Brushes (preferably Bristol, Filberts. Some smaller sabels and some rounds would be good as well.) 

• Palette knife 

• A large palette (If you do not have one a budget friendly tip is to buy an A3 picture frame in a 1€ shop. The smooth surface works very well)
